ADVITIYA was born not from a business plan, but from a journey of curiosity, courage, and conviction. After leaving a corporate career, I stepped into the world of fashion in 2013, designing garments with commercially available fabrics. As my understanding of textiles deepened, I found myself drawn to India’s rich craft traditions, particularly Ajrakh, whose intricate artistry opened the door to an entirely new perspective on design. That fascination soon evolved into a deeper exploration of natural dyes and traditional textile practices. The more I learned, the more I became aware of the environmental impact of conventional fashion—the excessive use of chemicals, enormous water consumption, and the growing culture of disposable clothing. A visit to Ajrakhpur in Kutch became a defining moment. Watching artisans create extraordinary colours from plants, minerals, and age-old techniques transformed my understanding of what fashion could be. It left me with one question that changed everything: if a more responsible way of creating textiles already exists, why wasn’t I embracing it?
That question led me to make one of the most difficult decisions of my life. In 2018, I paused my business and chose to begin again from scratch. Instead of building collections, I dedicated myself to learning natural dyeing and eco-printing, immersing myself in years of experimentation, research, and traditional craftsmanship. The journey was far from easy. Genuine mentors were difficult to find, and there were times when I was misled by people who promised knowledge but failed to deliver. Every failed experiment, inconsistent colour, and wasted batch tested my patience. Coming from a design background where precision and consistency were expected, accepting the unpredictable nature of natural dyes felt almost impossible. Yet over time, I realised that natural dyeing is not about controlling nature—it is about working in harmony with it. The variations I once saw as imperfections gradually became symbols of authenticity, craftsmanship, and the beauty of handmade creation. That shift in mindset transformed not only my work but also my philosophy as a designer.
When ADVITIYA was relaunched, it represented far more than a new collection—it represented a renewed purpose. Every garment became a reflection of years of learning, resilience, and respect for nature. I created the first collection almost entirely on my own, from preparing fabrics and extracting dyes to eco-printing, finishing, and packaging each piece by hand. While the collection was warmly received, it also taught me invaluable lessons about entrepreneurship. I discovered that creating handcrafted, naturally dyed garments involved hidden costs that extended far beyond raw materials—countless hours of experimentation, sampling, labour, utilities, and inevitable wastage. Financially, it was not my most profitable collection, but it became my greatest teacher. It reinforced that ADVITIYA was never meant to compete with fast fashion. Instead, it was built as an alternative for people who value craftsmanship, quality, and conscious living over mass production. Every customer who chooses one of our garments, every artisan whose skills are celebrated, and every piece that continues to be worn and cherished for years reaffirms why this journey began.
Today, ADVITIYA stands for mindful ownership and meaningful fashion. I believe we do not need more clothes—we need stronger relationships with the clothes we own. I want people to proudly repeat outfits, repair garments instead of replacing them, and appreciate clothing that grows more valuable through memories rather than trends. Some of the most rewarding moments have come from customers telling me they have worn their ADVITIYA garments countless times because they remain their favourites, or from receiving a personally signed letter of appreciation from Mr. Amitabh Bachchan after he received one of our creations as a birthday gift. These moments remind me that true success is not measured by sales but by the lasting connection people build with what we create. Looking ahead, my vision extends far beyond growing a fashion label. I hope ADVITIYA becomes a movement that inspires conscious consumption, preserves the traditions of natural dyeing and eco-printing, and encourages future generations to reconnect with craftsmanship, culture, and nature. If, years from now, ADVITIYA is remembered not simply as a clothing brand but as a force that changed the way people think about fashion, that will be the legacy I am most proud to leave behind.
